These FAQs provide general guidance about our charitable community initiatives, which include the opportunity for participants to receive appreciation awards such as a newly constructed home or cash-equivalent gifts. For complete details, please see the Official Rules & Disclosures.
How do I participate?
You may submit an entry through our website by selecting the community initiative that aligns with your eligibility (Gen Z, Educators, Military, First Responders, or the general Heart Home initiative). Your donation may accompany your entry and directly supports our charitable housing mission.
Is there a maximum contribution for each initiative?
The suggested contribution is:
- $100 per entry for the Gen Z, Educators, Military, and First Responders initiatives (Limited to 5 entries per person per initiative).
- $200 per entry for the Heart Home initiative (No entry limit).
All contributions support Homes with Heart25’s charitable programs. Contributions are voluntary and non-refundable.
How many appreciation award recipients may be selected?
Each of the five initiatives may select up to five (5) recipients:
- One individual may be offered the featured home; and
- Up to four individuals may be offered a cash-equivalent appreciation gift (up to $12,500 each).
Across all initiatives, up to 25 total recipients may be selected. Actual numbers may vary based on total participation and eligibility verification.
How are the charitable proceeds used?
Net proceeds support Homes with Heart25’s mission to expand access to safe, stable housing. Contributions may fund:
- Partnerships with nonprofit organizations serving educators, military members, first responders, foster-care families, and elderly or medically fragile individuals
- Essential household items such as appliances and furnishings
- Down-payment assistance and closing-cost support
- Housing-related community programs throughout Florida and beyond including our foster care community
At the conclusion of each fundraising initiative, Homes with Heart25 will publicly share on our official social media channels the nonprofit organizations that received charitable donations, ensuring transparency and community accountability.
Every contribution strengthens our ability to assist individuals and families in need.
Who is eligible to participate?
Eligibility requirements for each initiative are detailed in the Official Rules & Disclosures.
Generally, participants must:
- Be legal U.S. residents
- Be at least 18 years old
- Meet category-specific eligibility requirements at the time of entry
- Be able to provide documentation confirming eligibility
Can I donate to more than one initiative if I qualify for multiple categories?
Yes. Participants who meet the eligibility criteria for multiple initiatives may enter each one separately. Example: A 25-year-old teacher may participate in both the Gen Z and Educators initiatives.
What if my eligibility changes after entering?
Eligibility is determined at the time of entry.
If you met the requirements when your entry was submitted, you remain eligible even if your status later changes (e.g., aging out of the Gen Z category).
When will recipient selections occur?
Each initiative will conduct its recipient selection once the maximum number of entries for that initiative has been reached. Selections may occur before construction of the associated home is complete.
Do I need to be present during the selection?
No. Recipient selections are conducted independently and are overseen by a third party. All selections are made using computer-generated randomization.
How will I know if I have been selected?
Homes with Heart25 will contact selected individuals directly through the email or mailing address provided on their entry form. Selected individuals will receive a Recipient Notification Agreement (RNA) and will have ten (10) days to complete and return the required documentation.
Is there an alternative to receiving the home?
Yes. Individuals selected for a home appreciation award may choose a one-time cash alternative equal to 50% of the home’s fair market value. This election must be made when returning the Recipient Notification Agreement.
What if I cannot provide the requested documentation?
If a selected individual does not provide required documentation or does not return the RNA within 10 days, the opportunity will be forfeited and may be offered to the next eligible individual selected.
Are entries transferable?
No. Entries and associated contributions are non-transferable and non-refundable.
What taxes apply to appreciation awards?
Federal law requires that the value of certain appreciation awards be reported to the IRS.
Homes with Heart25 will issue IRS Form 1099-MISC reflecting the fair market value of the awarded home or cash-equivalent appreciation gift. Recipients are responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes. We encourage participants to consult a tax professional.
Is Homes with Heart25 a 501(c)(3) organization?
Homes with Heart25 is a Florida nonprofit corporation.
Our application for federal tax-exempt status under IRC Sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) has been submitted and once approved, will be retroactive to our date of incorporation.
Please consult a tax professional for guidance on deductibility.
