How do I participate?
You may submit an entry by visiting our website and selecting the fundraising initiative that aligns with your eligibility (Gen Z, Educators, Military, First Responders, or the general Heart Home initiative). Participants may make a voluntary donation in connection with their entry, which supports Homes with Heart25’s charitable housing mission and its partnerships with approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
Are there suggested contribution amounts?
The suggested contribution amounts are:
- $100 per entry for the Gen Z, Educators, Military, and First Responders initiatives
- $200 per entry for the Heart Home initiative
Participants may submit multiple entries. All contributions are voluntary, non-refundable, and support Homes with Heart25’s charitable housing mission and its partnerships with approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
How many appreciation award recipients may be selected?
Each of the five fundraising initiatives may select up to five (5) recipients:
- One (1) individual may be offered the featured home; and
- Up to four (4) individuals may be offered an alternative appreciation award (valued up to $12,500 each).
Across all initiatives, up to twenty-five (25) total recipients may be selected. Actual numbers may vary based on total participation and eligibility verification.
How will the proceeds from the fundraising initiatives be used?
Net proceeds from Homes with Heart25 fundraising initiatives help support charitable programs and nonprofit organizations whose missions align with housing stability, family support, and community assistance. Depending on the specific initiative, proceeds may help provide support for:

Can I participate in more than one fundraising initiative?
Yes. Participants who meet the eligibility requirements for more than one fundraising initiative may submit entries for each applicable initiative. For example, a 25-year-old teacher may be eligible to participate in both the Gen Z and Educators initiatives.
Who is eligible to participate?
Eligibility requirements for each fundraising initiative are outlined in the Official Rules & Disclosures. Generally, participants must:
- Be legal U.S. residents
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Meet any category-specific eligibility requirements at the time of entry
- Be able to provide documentation to verify eligibility
What if my eligibility changes after entering?
Eligibility is determined at the time of entry. If you met the eligibility requirements when your entry was submitted, you will remain eligible even if your status later changes (for example, aging out of the Gen Z category).
When will recipient selections occur?
Each fundraising initiative will conduct its recipient selection once the initiative has reached its targeted participation goals. Selections may occur before construction of the associated home is complete.
Do I need to be present during the selection process?
No. Recipient selections are conducted independently and overseen by a third party. All selections are made using a computer-generated randomization process.
How will I know if I have been selected?
Homes with Heart25 will contact selected individuals directly using the email or mailing address provided at the time of entry. Selected individuals will receive a Recipient Notification Agreement (RNA) and will have ten (10) days to complete, sign, and return the required documentation.
Is there an alternative if I am unable to or choose not to take possession of the home?
Yes. Individuals selected for a home appreciation award may elect a one-time alternative appreciation award equal to fifty percent (50%) of the home’s fair market value. This election must be made at the time of completing and returning the Recipient Notification Agreement (RNA).
What if I cannot provide the required documentation for verification to receive an award?
If a selected individual does not provide the required documentation or fails to return the Recipient Notification Agreement (RNA) within ten (10) days, the opportunity will be forfeited and may be offered to the next eligible individual selected.
Are entries transferable?
Entries and associated contributions are non-refundable. However, an entry may be transferred to another individual who meets the eligibility requirements of the applicable fundraising initiative associated with that entry.
What taxes apply to appreciation awards?
Federal law requires that the value of certain appreciation awards be reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Homes with Heart25 will issue an IRS Form 1099-MISC reflecting the fair market value of any awarded home or alternative appreciation award. Recipients are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes associated with their award. Homes with Heart25 does not provide tax advice. Participants are strongly encouraged to consult with their own qualified tax professional to understand any tax obligations prior to accepting an award.
